A Boy and His Dog

... His Black Dog (t-shirt), that is. A sure sign of the season, right?

Baby Boy is filling our summer days with lots of smiles. Sleep, however, is another story.

Hope everyone is well!

Swizzle Inn...

... And swagger out, so it's said on the island. DH and I did just that in Bermuda last week.

After hours of bawling that I couldn't leave Baby Boy behind for a few nights, I did it. DH and I boarded a plane and were off to paradise: The Fairmont in South Hampton. (P.S. Thank goodness for Xanax and the fact that I had forgotten about this little thing called the Bermuda Triangle!) My family was thrilled to watch our little guy, so I knew he was in the best of hands. It was difficult for me to go, but in the end, I'm glad we went. The sun, surf, and Swizzles did me a world of good.

Here are a few photos from our brief, but very enjoyable holiday:

This wasn't open, but I loved the name:

Bonanno's in Bermuda!:

Adirondack Chairs--My favorite!

The Beach:

It wasn't all Swizzles--I enjoyed a few of my favorite Espresso drinks, as well. Nothing like a Martini with a Message from the bartender!

Cheers to a little R&R!

Where in the World is CBM?

For the past few days, I could be found in pink and green paradise, drinking Dark and Stormies. But more on that later, if you haven't already guessed my mini-vacation location.

Life has been good--no, great!--but definitely full speed ahead. Time certainly flies when you're having fun and discovering all the joys and the different challenges of motherhood. As I was busy trying to establish a routine with my little one, the month of May completely escaped me. Indeed, my maternity leave somehow escaped me, as well, and I head back to my office in just one week. But I'll save my conflicted emotions on that topic for another time.

For now, here's a brief recap of my exciting and once again overly-caffeinated life. In the fleeting month of May I did the following, in no particular order:

- Melted as I watched Baby Boy start smiling more and more everyday, and been amazed at the bond we have. Sometimes, I am the only one who can calm him when he cries, simply by holding and cuddling him in my arms. I'm absolutely in awe of my love for him; it's truly like nothing else.

- Organized my closet. Hooray for summer dresses and skirts and to almost (read: ten pounds) being back to my regular size! I'm very excited for all of the lovely Lilly this summer; it just puts a smile on my face. Goodbye, maternity clothes. As much as I adore my son, I was really not sad to rid my closet of anything with an expandable waist.

- Celebrated the 31st birthday of my best friend--Cheers to my Darling Husband, the Darling, New Dad! oxox!

- Took Baby Boy to the Cape with DH and my parents for the first time over Memorial Day Weekend. We braved the cold and went for a walk to the ocean, where he slept the entire time.

- Started ordering a grande opposed to my usual tall Caramel Frappuccino at Starbucks and started going out of my way to the drive-thru, because sometimes, it's just too much to unpack an infant. Started going to the 'Bucks twice a day on some occasions, because I. NEED. COFFEE. It has occurred to me that I might be returning to work in part to fund my caffeine habit. I'm only half-kidding.

- Celebrated my first Mother's Day! It's amazing to even type that! Happy belated Mother's Day to all of my reader moms out there, and here's hoping that you all had a very relaxing, enjoyable day. I had a lovely, low-key day with my family and my mom, the best person and mother I know. This year, I have a much deeper appreciation for all she does and has done for my brothers and me. And speaking of Mother's Day gratitude, DH outdid himself and expressed his appreciation for moi by arranging the mini-holiday that I hinted to above.

- Spent the Monday of Memorial Day with DH filming a commercial on our friends' lovely roof deck, overlooking the city. It was all in good fun, and who knows if the footage the crew took will ever air in what would supposedly be a national ad campaign. Details to follow on this one, too. In the meantime, any guesses on what product I was pushing?

- Watched the Derby, of course. Briefly wished I were there again, but felt so lucky and happy to be sitting in my living room with my boys, the two loves of my life.

- Went to several doctors appointments for Baby Boy, as we discovered that our sweetie son has acid reflux and an allergy to certain proteins in formula. We've tried several formulas, and it finally seems that he's on the right one. It's been agonizing watching my little one in pain, trying to digest formulas that severely irritate him, and I think I've shed as many, if not more, tears as he has. Hopefully, we're on the right track now, and the good news is that my son has been gaining weight and thriving despite these issues, which thankfully, are the kind that can be resolved.

- And on a sad note, learned that a former colleague, who, over the years, became a dear friend, has lung cancer that appears inoperable. He's a non-smoking, father of three, and a wonderful, brilliant man--the type of person who somehow makes you a better person simply by knowing and being around him. When I read his email with this news, what I felt for him and his family hit me like a ton of bricks. Privately, I cried for days, and I have had such a heavy heart. Please say a prayer or some positive thoughts for my friend--it would be most appreciated.

So, as you can see, the past month was a very full one. It's incredible when actually writing to realize just how much can happen--largely good, but for the news of my friend's illness--in just a few, short weeks. No doubt, life around here will continue to be busy and interesting, and I will continue to enjoy it all with my two best boys and family at my side.

The beat goes on...

Talk Derby To Me

What an exciting race today! I hope that everyone had a very happy Derby Day and trust that you all drank plenty of mint juleps! DH, Baby Boy, and I watched from our living room this year, but I thought I'd share a few pictures (apparently, uploaded in reverse order--oops!) of our trip to the Oaks and Derby last year--it was the most amazing time!

One Month

Here's a picture of my best guy (or best small guy I should say, because with DH and baby, I technically have two best guys now). My best small guy is one month old today and growing bigger and more alert everyday.

As you can see, just like his mum, Baby Boy loves his anchors!

Shoes News

I haven't had a lot of time to post or shop or do a lot of anything for that matter, because, you know, I've been hanging out with a newborn--the sweetest boy ever, by the way!--but I thought I'd share some shoes news. Forgive me and my delay if this is already well known on the blog circuit, but one of my very stylish friends recently emailed to inform me about the latest shoe debut: the Eliza B. Allez! Flat.

Click on the link to read all about the new, design-your-own ballet flat available in fabric or patent leather. I'm thinking I'll need a comfy, new pair of flats if I'll be chasing around a very busy boy in the coming months!
